Mary Poppins and GAHSMTA
Round Rock High School's Visual and Performing Arts Academies presented MARY POPPINS - the Broadway Musical! January 13 - 16, 2016 @ Round Rock Independent School Districts's Performing Arts Center.
The 2015-2016 school year had barely started when these kids auditioned. They put in COUNTLESS hours, sacrificed weekends and holidays to learn and perfect their parts. And it paid off!!
Four nights of singing, dancing, and FLYING! Closing night was EPIC as the kids CRUSHED IT to a SOLD OUT performance at the PAC - FIRST TIME EVER that the PAC was sold out!
I was granted permission to photograph during the performances on 1/14 & 1/15 by the RRHS Theater Directors to provide keepsake memories to the performers and their families. Apologies to those who performed downstage of the Scrim - the lighting wasn't sufficient for my camera (me?!) to focus properly.
28 Austin area high schools ended their 2015-2016 Musical Theater year with the Third Annual Greater Austin High School Music Theater Award (GAHSMTA) Ceremony held on April 13 at the Long Center!
The evening was very reminiscent of a Broadway Tony Awards ceremony - complete with Red Carpet, paparazzi, production numbers featuring the "select ensemble", and the Finale featuring 2 students from each musical. The ceremony was interspersed with words of encouragement and congratulatory remarks from current Broadway stars!
Round Rock High School was fortunate to have 2 Thespians chosen for the "Select Ensemble": Lydia K and Molly B! Also, Amelia R and Kolin P were included in the Finale!
The RRHS production of Mary Poppins was nominated for 5 awards: Best Actress in a Leading Role (Lydia K), Best Musical Direction, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, and TOOK HOME THE AWARD for Best Scenic Design! CONGRATULATIONS to the Directors and the ENTIRE cast and crew for an INCREDIBLE production!
All I can say: The greater Austin area is overflowing with talented artists!
